Auburn women’s golf alum Megan Schofill won her first Epson Tour event at the Carlisle Arizona Women’s Golf Classic in Scottsdale, Arizona, on May 3. Schofill secured the title with a total score of 273, finishing 11 under par and winning by one stroke.
The win marks a significant achievement for Schofill as she continues her professional golf career. The Epson Tour serves as the official qualifying tour for the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA), offering players a pathway to earn LPGA membership through strong performances.
Schofill described key moments from her final round, saying, “I made a really nice par, finally hit a good approach shot on 11 and then made a great birdie on 12 that put the momentum in my favor.” She added, “I started hitting some nice golf shots, and a long putt on the 15th hole really propelled me. After the 11th hole, I felt that if I kept playing well, I would have a chance to win.”
Reflecting on closing out her round under pressure, Schofill said: “Coming down 18, I really was hoping I would hit the green and not have to chip, but I had to chip twice. Amari (Avery) kind of gave me the read, so I felt pretty good over the putt, but I definitely was very nervous. I just really wanted to close it out and did not want to have a playoff.”
Schofill opened with rounds of 67 and followed with scores of 71, 66 and finished with a two-under-par round of 69. She took seven birdies during her third round and led by two strokes entering Sunday’s final play. In that last round she regained momentum with another birdie at hole fifteen after briefly losing ground at seventeen but held steady for par at eighteen.
With this victory Schofill earned 500 Race for the Card points—moving into second place in season standings—and strengthens her chances for an LPGA card; fifteen are awarded each year based on these rankings. As an Auburn student-athlete from 2019-2024 she received All-SEC honors five times and became Auburn’s first U.S. Women’s Amateur champion in addition to being named WGCA All-American first team in 2023.
