Three Auburn University athletes secured individual titles at the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Indoor Track and Field Championships held in Bryan-College Station, Texas, on Saturday.
Kayinsola Ajayi claimed the men’s 60-meter dash title with a time of 6.45 seconds, matching the collegiate record. This marks his second SEC gold in the event, having previously won as a freshman. Ajayi finished ahead of Arkansas’ Jelani Watkins, who took silver with 6.53 seconds, while Auburn teammate Israel Okon earned bronze in 6.54 seconds. Omari Lewis placed sixth for Auburn with a time of 6.61 seconds.
Ja’Kobe Tharp won his second consecutive indoor title in the men’s 60-meter hurdles by finishing in 7.48 seconds, narrowly defeating Texas A&M’s Ja’Qualon Scott by two hundredths of a second. Tharp is now the first SEC hurdler since Grant Holloway to win back-to-back titles and becomes the first Auburn athlete since Cory Martin to secure consecutive indoor league crowns.
In women’s field events, senior Megan Hague set new school records twice during her six attempts in shot put, ultimately winning her first conference gold medal with a throw of 18.89 meters (61 feet, 11.75 inches). Hague surpassed Ole Miss’ Akaoma Odeluga by nearly eight inches and broke the facility record with her fifth throw. Camryn Massey finished fifth in shot put for Auburn with a personal-best mark of 17.15 meters (56 feet, 3.25 inches).
Senior Danae Nembhard earned silver in the women’s 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.93 seconds—just shy of her own school record—while Ana-Liese Torian placed sixth at 8.05 seconds.
Auburn concluded the meet ranked tenth in both men’s and women’s team standings; the men accumulated 34 points and the women tallied 33 points overall. Arkansas captured the men’s team championship while Florida secured the women’s title.
