Auburn fell to Jacksonville State by a score of 4-1 in a baseball game played on May 12. The Tigers were unable to recover after falling behind early and could not mount a comeback against the Gamecocks.

The loss concludes an eight-game road trip for Auburn, during which the team went 5-3 and earned two top-10 series wins. Head coach Butch Thompson said, “We just didn’t do enough. I thought we were pretty lethargic offensively, but give those guys credit. They keep winning games and have done a good job all season.” Thompson also said, “If you don’t bring your A game in one of the categories you could absolutely lose to the teams that we’re playing down the stretch.”

Pitcher Marcel Kulik contributed with a season-high 2.1 scoreless innings and three strikeouts, helping keep Auburn within reach. Kulik said, “I feel good. My stuff has been pretty good, and I’m really happy to have such a good defense behind me whenever I’m on the mound,” adding, “It’s good. I can trust them to throw my stuff and let the people put it in play and they’ll make plays.”

Jacksonville State (41-11) scored first with two hits and an RBI single in the opening inning. Auburn (35-16) had runners in scoring position several times but was unable to capitalize due to strikeouts or double plays at key moments.

The Tigers will return home for their final regular-season series against Georgia.
