Auburn freshman Ethin Bingaman became the first Auburn baseball freshman in recorded history to hit three home runs in a single game, according to an April 29 announcement. His family, who traveled from Southern California, witnessed his first homer before leaving Plainsman Park for their flight.
The achievement highlights Bingaman’s growing impact on the team and draws attention to his rapid development as a player. The accomplishment is notable both for its rarity and for the role family support played during the event.
Bingaman’s father, Dustin, said, “It was a pretty special moment when he made eye contact with us. I knew what a big deal it was for him to hit a home run in front of the home crowd.” Despite having to leave early, his family listened to the rest of the game on their way to Atlanta and celebrated remotely as Bingaman continued his historic performance. Head coach Butch Thompson said, “If somebody will come to this campus and see this place, it absolutely sells itself,” reflecting on how Bingaman joined Auburn after playing at Corona High School in California.
Bingaman turned down an offer from Arizona after being drafted by them in the 20th round of the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft. Thompson said about that decision: “He’s pretty committed to Auburn.” On why he chose college over professional baseball so soon, Bingaman said: “The coaches. It sounded like a family, and it sounded like they were going to help me grow as a man. Ever since I showed up on campus, it’s all been true.”
Since joining Auburn’s lineup at first base and outfield positions, Bingaman has led all Southeastern Conference freshmen with 21 runs batted in through seven conference weekends. He has also contributed significantly during recent games with four home runs and seventeen RBIs across twelve games while helping Auburn win four consecutive SEC series.
Though recognized nationally—including SEC Co-Freshman of the Week honors—Bingaman keeps focus on teamwork: “It shows we’re working together as a team,” he said. Looking ahead, he continues making his case for Freshman All-America consideration while supporting Auburn’s push toward an SEC championship.
