Auburn men’s golf team led the field on March 23 after the first two rounds of the Valspar Collegiate at The Floridian in Palm City, Florida. Auburn finished the day with scores of 20-under and 10-under par, giving them a two-shot lead heading into Tuesday’s final round.
The tournament is significant as it features top-ranked collegiate teams competing for an early spring title. Auburn’s performance places them ahead of No. 10 Texas Tech, which trails by only two strokes at 28-under par. The third-place team, No. 6 Texas, is ten shots behind Auburn at 20-under.
All five players from Auburn posted subpar scores to open the tournament. Juniors Jackson Koivun and Cayden Pope each finished at eight under par for the day, three shots behind individual leader Jaden Dumdumaya from USC who stands at eleven under par. Freshman Jake Albert ended six under par, just behind his junior teammates.
Sophomore Billy Davis contributed with a five under score while junior Josiah Gilbert followed closely at four under par. These performances helped secure Auburn’s position atop the leaderboard going into the final round.
The results set up a close contest between Auburn and Texas Tech as they prepare for Tuesday’s concluding eighteen holes.
