The Auburn men’s basketball team will hold its 12th annual AUTLIVE game on Saturday, February 21, when the Tigers play Kentucky at Neville Arena. The event is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. CT.
AUTLIVE is an initiative sponsored by the Pearl Family Foundation. Its goal is to increase awareness about cancer prevention and detection. Funds are raised through t-shirt sales and donations, which support cancer patients and local hospitals in Alabama. The program was started in 2009 by Coach Bruce Pearl and his staff while at Tennessee, inspired by former player Chris Lofton’s successful fight against testicular cancer during the 2007-08 season.
Head Coach Steven Pearl commented on the impact of the campaign: “Over the past 11 seasons, the Auburn Family has stepped up in a powerful way to help make AUTLIVE a statewide campaign with meaningful impact on countless lives,” he said. “The funds raised through AUTLIVE allow patients to focus on one thing – their fight against cancer. Your generosity directly impacts people right here in our state, giving them a true homecourt advantage in the fight to beat cancer.”
Funds from AUTLIVE are distributed to several organizations and treatment centers across Alabama, including Russell Medical Foundation, Smile-A-Mile, Coosa Valley Medical Center, Children’s of Alabama, East Alabama Medical Center, Joy to Life, aTeam Ministries, Cancer Wellness Foundation, Russel Hill, Southeast Health Foundation, Alabama Oncology Foundation and Mitchell Cancer Center.
During the event, the Mike Slive Foundation will provide Blood PSA Screenings outside of the Hall of Honor on Neville Arena’s concourse level.
