Ava Esposito, a junior at Auburn University, has earned ITA All-America honors after advancing to the round of 16 at the NCAA Singles Championship. This achievement makes her the 13th player in Auburn Tigers Women’s Tennis program history to receive this recognition.
Esposito secured her place in the round of 16 by defeating Anastasiia Grechkina with a score of 6-4, 6-3 on Wednesday morning. After her win, Esposito said, “I just tried to focus on what I could do to win the match. I kept my head down and worked every point. I’m really proud of how I came through during the match and did everything right.
“Obviously, being an All-American has been a goal for me. Everyone comes into college with that in the back of their minds, so I feel honored to have that title. Super proud at the end of the day, but excited to play the rest of the tournament.”
During her match against Grechkina, Esposito broke serve in the final game of the first set and carried that momentum into the second set, taking an early lead before closing out with a hold to love.
With Esposito’s accomplishment, Auburn continues its streak by producing a singles All-American for four consecutive seasons and now counts 20 all-time All-American selections within its women’s tennis program.
Esposito is scheduled to compete in her round of 16 match on Thursday; details about timing are yet to be announced. The NCAA Singles Championship is held at USTA National Campus and will conclude with Sunday’s championship match. Matches are streamed live on ESPN+, while live scoring updates can be found throughout the event at NCAA.com.
