Record-setting quarterback Byrum Brown has officially joined Auburn Football, according to an announcement by head coach Alex Golesh. Brown, a senior from Raleigh, North Carolina, led all FBS quarterbacks in 2025 with 42 total touchdowns and averaged 347.2 yards of offense per game.
Golesh expressed enthusiasm about the addition: “Byrum is a true leader and competitor. He’s process-driven in everything he does. What makes him special is how he elevates everyone around him. He makes guys compete at a higher level every single day and demands greatness from himself and his teammates. I’m so excited to see him at Auburn. He loves our offense and system, and honestly, I couldn’t be more thrilled that he’s joining us here.”
During the 2025 season, Brown completed 66.3 percent of his passes for 3,158 yards with 28 touchdowns against seven interceptions. He also rushed for 1,008 yards with 14 rushing touchdowns and had six games with over 100 rushing yards.
Over four seasons at USF, Brown accumulated a total of 7,690 passing yards with 61 passing touchdowns along with 2,265 rushing yards and 31 rushing scores.
Brown’s performance in the previous season set several records. He became the only FBS or NFL player in the last three decades to record at least five consecutive games with over 200 passing yards, more than 80 rushing yards, and one or more rushing touchdowns each game. Additionally, he joined an exclusive group of just twelve NCAA players who have achieved both over 3,000 passing yards and over 1,000 rushing yards in a single season.
His efforts earned national recognition as he was named a Davey O’Brien Award Semifinalist and appeared on watch lists for several other major awards including the Maxwell Award and Manning Award. Brown was recognized multiple times throughout the year as American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week as well as receiving honors such as Davey O’Brien “Great 8” selections and Manning Award Star of the Week designations.
Although injuries limited his participation to five games during the 2024 season, Brown’s earlier achievements included setting multiple program records at USF during his standout year in 2023—such as becoming the first player in school history to surpass both passing yardage (3,292) and touchdown marks (26), along with completion percentage (64.6 percent) and total plays (630). That same year he joined LSU’s Jayden Daniels as one of only two players nationally to post over both 3,000 passing yards and more than 800 rushing yards.
In addition to his athletic accomplishments, Brown maintained academic excellence by holding a GPA of 3.77 while majoring in Health Sciences at USF; he received Athletics Honor Roll recognition on several occasions and was selected as a Military Bowl STEM Scholar-Athlete for the class of 2025.
Brown graduated from USF in December after attending Rolesville High School in Raleigh.
