Auburn softball lost both games of a doubleheader to No. 19 LSU at Tiger Park on May 2, closing out the regular season.

The results mark a challenging end to Auburn’s regular season, with the team struggling to maintain momentum as they prepare for the upcoming conference tournament.

Co-head coach Chris Malveaux said, “For some reason, it has been tough for us to show up and play with an aggressive mindset lately. If you look at the last month, we’ve tried, but it’s on us as coaches. We’ve got some bits and pieces, but at this level it can’t be just bits and pieces. It has got to be totality across the board and throughout the game. We’ve got a young team that has a difficult time committing to that over and over, but we’ve got the conference tournament ahead of us.”

In game one, LSU took control early with an eight-run first inning and went on to win 25-0 in five innings. Auburn committed two errors in the opening frame while allowing nine hits. Alix Franklin extended LSU’s lead with a grand slam in the third inning before additional runs widened Auburn’s deficit further.

Game two saw Auburn close an early gap after junior Ma’Nia Womack hit a solo home run in the second inning, but LSU responded by adding insurance runs in later innings for a final score of 7-2. Womack finished three-for-three with two home runs and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Auburn will travel to Lexington for the SEC Softball Tournament where they are seeded fourteenth and will face Missouri on Tuesday.
