Auburn University’s baseball team swept a doubleheader against Texas A&M on May 2, handing the Aggies their first series loss in six weeks. The Tigers won the first game 18-5 in seven innings and secured a narrow 5-4 victory in the second game at Blue Bell Park.

The wins are significant for Auburn, currently ranked sixth, as they came on the road against seventh-ranked Texas A&M. The results mark Auburn’s first time winning two games against a top-10 opponent on the road since defeating South Carolina in 2023.

Head coach Butch Thompson said, “It’s just a mark of three guys pitched today in a doubleheader on the road against a top-10 team and got it done. Really good pitching that we have confidence and faith in held up. I know it’s an offensive day to talk about, and it should be, but nonetheless our pitchers are absolutely the reason we won two.”

Pitcher Andreas Alvarez delivered a complete game with a career-high 11 strikeouts during game one. Jake Marciano and Jackson Sanders combined for all outs in game two. Thompson also said, “The last four weeks it feels like we’ve been short one run, and we found a way today. I just trusted (Jackson) so much. Whether they tied it or walked us off, Jackson is our net for us and he’s paid huge dividends. We got right where we wanted to. I’m proud of him. He just didn’t get caught up in the moment right there.”

Alvarez credited his teammates’ offense after receiving strong run support: “It just feels awesome to have our team be in a spot like that and be able to compete like that… Credit to our offense. They gave me 18 runs, and that just gave me the ability to go out there and throw as many strikes as possible.”

Chase Fralick hit three home runs over both games—including two homers during game two—and became Auburn’s first player since 1985 to homer in five consecutive games. Fralick said about his performance: “This day was incredible… Six days off is huge, especially at this point in the season, and we took it like we wanted to come out here and show what this team is capable of.” He added about their approach at bat: “Getting their starter out and getting into their (bullpen) early was really important… Everybody in this lineup did a great job contributing to today.”

Auburn recorded six home runs across both games Saturday—bringing its total over its last eleven games to thirty homers after hitting twenty-nine through its first thirty-four contests this season.

The teams will play again Sunday afternoon.
