Auburn University’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams competed against the University of Florida on Friday at the James E. Martin Aquatic Center. The Auburn men lost to Florida with a score of 193.5-105, while the women were defeated 179-119.
Freshman Daniel Krichevsky contributed two individual wins for Auburn in the men’s events. He secured first place in both the 200 free with a time of 1:33.10 and the 100 free at 42.37.
Head coach Ryan Wochomurka’s focus on relays was evident as Auburn posted second-place finishes in both men’s and women’s 200 medley relay events. Lora Komoroczy, Kiia Metsakonkola, Izzy Iwasyk, and Elizaveta Klevanovich recorded a time of 1:36.61 for the women, while Ivan Tarasov, Uros Zivanovic, Sohib Khaled, and Kalle Makinen finished in 1:23.53 for the men.
Sophomore Sammie Hamilton led Auburn’s distance swimmers by placing third in the women’s 1000 freestyle (9:50.92) and moving up to second in the 500 freestyle (4:48.05). Mack Schumann finished fourth in both men’s distance events.
Wyllo Hanson took third place in the women’s 200 free with a time of 1:47.05 before Krichevsky claimed his first victory of the meet.
In other results, Lora Komoroczy placed second in the women’s 100 backstroke (52.26), and Ivan Tarasov took silver in the men’s event (46.17), just ahead of teammate Sohib Khaled who finished third.
Uros Zivanovic continued his consistent performances for Auburn by finishing second in the men’s 100 breaststroke with a time of 52.70. Freshman Maston Ballew also earned second place in the men’s 200 breaststroke at 1:55.15.
Auburn had success across butterfly events as Carissa Rinard finished second in the women’s 200 fly (1:59.14), Abdalla Nasr won on the men’s side (1:44.66), and Morgan Cartaeux earned her first win of the season by taking first place in the women’s 100 fly (52.41).
Elizaveta Klevanovich remained dominant in sprint events by winning her fifth title this season with a victory in the women’s 50 free (22.09). She later finished second in the women’s 100 free (49.13). For Auburn’s men, Kalle Makinen was runner-up in the men’s 50 free (19.57).
In individual medleys, Zoey Zeller and Danny Schmidt each collected silver medals for their respective teams.
The final relays saw Auburn secure more second-place finishes—Klevanovich, Iwasyk, Hanson, and Isabella Ekk combined for a time of 3:17.46 in the women’s race; Warner Russ, Luke Bedsole, Krichevsky, and Makinen finished at 2:51.45 for men.
Diving performances included Juliette Landi’s second-place finish on women’s one-meter springboard (293.10) and her win on three-meter board with a score of 320.93—her second victory this season.
On the men’s side, Talan Blackmon was runner-up on three-meter springboard (370.80) while Ben Wilson took third on one-meter board (339.83).
Auburn is scheduled to compete next against Alabama on January 30th before returning home to host the Auburn Invite from February 6-7.
