Auburn to host Samford following strong start to baseball season

No. 6 Auburn will continue its homestand by facing Samford on Tuesday at Plainsman Park. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT and will be available on the Auburn Sports Network, ESPN 106.7 FM, and digitally via SEC Network+.

Auburn comes into the matchup with a 9-2 record after securing its 11th consecutive regular season home series win. The Tigers have had strong performances at home, winning 34 games at Plainsman Park over the last two seasons.

The pitching staff has been effective this season, recording 140 strikeouts with only 25 walks in 97 innings pitched. This marks the highest number of strikeouts through 11 games since at least 1992 and the second fewest walks allowed in that span. Auburn’s starting pitchers have combined for 88 strikeouts and eight walks over 56 innings.

Nationally, Auburn ranks among the top five teams in several pitching categories: second in both strikeout-to-walk ratio (5.60) and walks allowed per nine innings (2.32), as well as fourth in strikeouts per nine innings (13.0).

Mason McCraine was recognized as SEC Freshman of the Week after achieving six hits—including his first career home run—and driving in eight runs across four games last week. “It marks Auburn’s sixth SEC Freshman of the Week honor in the last two seasons, tied for the most in the league during the span.” Brandon McCraine leads all SEC players with a .533 batting average and holds a .634 on-base percentage through his first ten collegiate games.

Auburn holds a historical advantage over Samford, leading their all-time series 49-13-1 and maintaining a home record of 24-7 against them.

Samford enters Tuesday’s contest with a record of 5-6 after winning two out of three games against Bowling Green last weekend, outscoring their opponent by a combined total of 18-6 over those two victories. Offensively, Samford is hitting .267 as a team with sophomore infielder Jake Souders leading at .415 average and eight stolen bases through eleven games; redshirt junior Luke Boykin leads with five home runs and seventeen RBIs.

On the mound, Samford’s pitching staff has posted an earned run average (ERA) of 8.34 this season with ninety-five strikeouts and forty-eight walks across ninety point two innings pitched; they recorded a lower ERA of 4.50 over four games last week.

Defensively, Samford leads NCAA Division I baseball with a .995 fielding percentage, having committed just two errors in three hundred sixty-five chances so far this year.

For fans attending Tuesday’s game—which coincides with an Auburn men’s basketball event—parking will be available at designated lots including coliseum lot, athletics complex deck, and lower levels of stadium deck; other areas are reserved for basketball parking pass holders.
