Auburn University’s track and field team hosted the annual Tiger Track Classic on April 25, delivering a strong performance that included several personal bests, school records, and event wins.

The meet was notable for freshman Sophia Mazzoni breaking her own Auburn freshman javelin record twice during the competition. Mazzoni’s final throw reached 54.50 meters (178-05), which stands as the 16th best mark in the National Collegiate Athletic Association this season. This is the fourth time she has broken or tied the record in just four collegiate competitions.

The Tigers also honored their seniors during Saturday’s events, recognizing eight women and twelve men for their contributions to the program. Among those celebrated were Shelby Balding, Gene Coetzee, Megan Hague, Danae Nembhard, Hallie Porterfield, Alyssa Quinones-Mixon, Cassidra Thompson, Reese Webster on the women’s side; Seth Allen, LeBron Bessick, Aaron Davis II, Azeem Fahmi, Rex Green, Austin Kresley, John Leonard, Ian Myers, Devin Nugent, Omari Lewis, Matthew Rainer and Matthew Rueff among men. Senior manager Kadisha Francois was also acknowledged.

In addition to Mazzoni’s achievement in javelin throw events included standout performances from senior Megan Hague who won gold in women’s shot put with a mark of 18.10 meters (59-04.75), making it her ninth top-ten performance for Auburn—eight of which have come this season alone. On the men’s side senior Matthew Rueff captured gold in shot put with a winning distance of 18.38 meters (60-03.75).

Other highlights included Camryn Massey leading women’s discus with a collegiate-best toss of 56.57 meters (185-07), while Marley Raikiwasa followed closely behind to earn bronze at 53.31 meters (174-11). In sprints and middle-distance races Cassidra Thompson took gold in women’s 400m at 53.63 seconds; Reese Webster became Auburn’s No.10 performer all-time in women’s 200m with a personal best of 23.05 seconds; Hallie Porterfield led an Auburn sweep of podium spots in women’s 1500m with a personal best time of 4:27:73.

Looking ahead Auburn will compete next at the Torrin Lawrence Memorial on May 2 before hosting the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championships from May 14–16.
