Auburn University reported on April 19 that its track and field team achieved several school records and notable performances during competitions at the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and the Tom Jones Memorial in Gainesville, Florida.
The announcement highlights a significant achievement for Auburn athletics, as athletes broke long-standing records and posted some of the top marks nationally this season. These results demonstrate the strength of both seasoned competitors and newcomers within the program.
Senior Megan Hague set a new Auburn outdoor record in women’s shot put with a throw of 18.22 meters, surpassing a mark from 2013. Hague now holds three of the top five marks in Auburn history for this event. Sophomore Max Hardin broke a 45-year-old men’s 1500-meter record with his time of 3:38.28, which is also among the best times nationally this year. Freshman Sophia Mazzoni matched her own freshman javelin record with a throw of 51.18 meters.
Other notable performances included junior Ja’Kobe Tharp’s time of 13.09 seconds in his outdoor debut for men’s 110-meter hurdles—the second-best ever by an Auburn athlete—and junior Kayinsola Ajayi winning the men’s 100-meter invite with a wind-aided time tied for third fastest nationally this season.
In distance events at Wake Forest, sophomore Nickson Chebii finished second in men’s 10,000 meters with a personal best that ranks him third all-time at Auburn. On the women’s side, Hallie Porterfield recorded a personal best in steeplechase to become second on Auburn’s performers list for that event.
Auburn will next host the Tiger Track Classic at Hutsell-Rosen Track on Saturday, April 25.
