Auburn secured a 14-4 run-rule win against Oklahoma on April 26, marking its fourth consecutive Southeastern Conference series victory at Plainsman Park.
The win places Auburn among only two teams in the league with at least four straight series wins, alongside Texas A&M. This result is significant as it demonstrates Auburn’s consistency and competitiveness within the conference.
Ethin Bingaman led the Tigers by hitting three home runs, matching a program record for most homers in a league game since at least 1993. Bingaman said, “I’ll probably feel all of it tomorrow and realize what I did but right now, it’s unreal. It was great to put runs on the board for Petro and help him settle in a little bit more because he knows he’s got more cushion.” Auburn hit six home runs during the game, accounting for most of their runs.
Coach Butch Thompson said, “A great response today. This is a pretty big team win against Oklahoma, who arguably has the best culture I’ve seen that we’ve competed against. A good hard-fought weekend for us. I’m thankful we were able to bounce back from last night and win a series. We had to play good in all three phases today to have a chance to win the series.” Other players contributing home runs included Bub Terrell, Chase Fralick, and Eric Guevara.
Pitcher Alex Petrovic improved his season record to seven wins after holding Oklahoma scoreless for five consecutive innings following an early deficit. Petrovic said of his performance: “Grinding it out, working with what I have and making those small adjustments that needed to be made. If I’m not going to have my stuff perfect, they better get me early and get settled later. It’s amazing when you’ve got offense like that, watching all those home runs. They really put it together this game.” Terrell added about facing Oklahoma’s pitching staff: “As a pitching staff, they were heavy fastball. We were coming into the game hunting the fastball,” adding that Auburn made “a statement” by consistently hitting fastballs throughout the contest.
The Tigers will next travel to College Station for a three-game series against Texas A&M.
