No. 7 Auburn women’s golf team is leading after the first round of the UCF Challenge at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando, Florida. The team posted an 8-under-par score of 280, holding a one-stroke advantage over No. 21 Baylor and No. 18 Mississippi State.
Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen commented on the team’s performance: “Good start with three players posting 3-under rounds. The highlight of the day was watching Molly Brown hole out from 90 yards for eagle on No. 4.
“One of our goals this week is to lead the field in par 3s, as they are quite lengthy. The other goal is to lead in par 5s, and we made great strides today in both categories.”
Auburn led all teams by finishing 11-under on par-5 holes during Sunday’s opening round.
Individually, Katie Cranston recorded six birdies, including three in her last five holes. Molly Brown Davidson made an eagle on the fourth hole and added two birdies. Anna Davis registered four birdies in her round. All three golfers shot a score of 69 (-3), tying them for fourth place individually and placing them two strokes behind the leader.
Charlotte Cantonis and Carys Worby each finished with scores of 73 (+1), tied for thirtieth place after round one.
