The Auburn women’s golf team advanced to the match play portion of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Women’s Golf Championship on April 19, finishing fourth in stroke play at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida. The Tigers shot a final-round score of 1-under 279 and secured their spot among the top eight teams moving forward in the competition.
This advancement is significant as it allows Auburn to continue competing for the conference title. The team’s performance improved by four spots from round two, ultimately finishing seven shots behind leader Florida and five strokes ahead of teams tied for seventh place.
Head coach Melissa Luellen said, “Today was a true display of mental toughness, staying steady no matter the situation. Katie (Cranston) battled early adversity and responded with an incredible 4-under on the back nine, which really set the tone. Molly Brown (Davidson), Anna (Davis) and Charlotte (Cantonis) all contributed outstanding rounds, and it showed in how we competed as a team. It’s been a complete team effort over these past three days, and we’re excited to carry that momentum into match play.”
Freshman Charlotte Cantonis led Auburn for a second consecutive day with a score of 2-under 68 in her final round, totaling five under par across three rounds and earning sixth place individually—her fifth top-10 finish this season. Anna Davis and Katie Cranston each scored even-par rounds on Sunday; Cranston notably recovered from being four over at the turn by making four birdies on her back nine. Molly Brown Davidson rounded out Auburn’s counting scores with a one-over round.
Auburn will face No. 21 Ole Miss in Monday morning’s quarterfinals starting at 7 a.m., followed by semifinals later that afternoon if they advance. The championship match is scheduled for Tuesday with coverage available through SEC Network platforms.
The Tigers have won ten SEC titles historically and captured their first under match-play rules in 2021.
