No. 5 Auburn women’s golf team finished the second round of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate on Tuesday at Long Cove Club in Hilton Head, South Carolina. The Tigers recorded a 9-over-par 293 and are tied for eighth place with a total score of 19-over 587 after two rounds. Texas currently leads the tournament at 1-under 567, with one round remaining.
Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen commented on the team’s performance: “A lot can happen fast in team golf, and today it flipped the wrong way. The team was in a great rhythm on the front nine, then hit a wall on holes 10-14. Everyone knows that is the toughest stretch at Long Cove. A bit of bad luck and a few bad swings led to some big numbers from our counters. We have played plenty of good golf, we just need to put it all together.”
Luellen also highlighted Charlotte Cantonis’s play: “Really proud of Charlotte (Cantonis) and her steady play. I’m watching her mature before my eyes.”
Cantonis led Auburn on Tuesday with a 1-under 70, including two birdies. She is tied for ninth overall at 1-over-par 143 after two rounds.
Redshirt senior Carys Worby improved her score by seven strokes from the first round, finishing with a 2-over 73 in round two. She is tied for 67th at 11-over-par 153.
Molly Brown Davidson posted a second-round score of 3-over 74 and is tied for 38th at 6-over-par 148 alongside junior Anna Davis, who shot a second-round score of 5-over 76.
Katie Cranston finished Tuesday’s round with an 80 (+9), placing her tied for 71st at a total of +13.
