Auburn women’s tennis, ranked No. 2 nationally, will continue its conference schedule at home this week with matches against Mississippi State on Thursday and Alabama on Saturday, according to a Mar. 25 announcement from the team. Both contests will take place at the Yarbrough Tennis Center in Auburn.

The upcoming matches are significant as Auburn seeks to maintain its strong standing in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and build on its record-setting season. The Tigers have achieved their highest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Team Ranking at No. 2, surpassing their previous best of No. 3 set earlier this month.

Head coach Jordan Szabo said, “We have two good teams this week that are battling in the middle of the pack in the SEC. It’s going to be nice to be at home, and the weather looks like it’s going to be great.” Szabo noted that Mississippi State is “right on the NCAA bubble right now and fighting for SEC Tournament seeding,” making Thursday’s match especially important for them.

Auburn enters Thursday’s matchup with a 24-2 overall record and an undefeated home streak of 15-0 this season. The Tigers split last week’s road trip by defeating South Carolina but falling to top-ranked Georgia—marking their first conference loss but maintaining an 8-1 SEC record tied with Texas A&M for first place.

Mississippi State holds a 15-6 overall record and is ranked No. 44 by ITA, while Alabama comes into Saturday’s match with a 12-5 overall mark and sits at No. 38 in ITA rankings after a recent loss to Oklahoma. Szabo said about Saturday’s contest: “Alabama, in my opinion, is the biggest match of the year every year… We’re going to come out fired up, and I love those rivalry matches.”

Fans attending Thursday’s match can receive vintage women’s tennis T-shirts while supplies last; wooden egg painting will be available during Saturday’s event. Additional information for fans as well as live video and scoring can be found at AuburnTigers.com.
