DJ Bennett has been named SEC Player of the Week for the second time this season, according to an announcement from the conference office on Wednesday. This marks the third time in her career that Bennett has received this recognition.

Bennett, a senior at Auburn, played a key role in leading her team to a win against Florida during their SEC opener in Gainesville. Originally from Belleview, Florida, she contributed significantly in both singles and doubles matches. In doubles play, Bennett teamed up with Ava Esposito to secure the point at No. 1 doubles with a 6-3 victory over Xinyi Nong and Nikola Daubnerova, who are ranked 23rd nationally.

In singles competition, Bennett faced No. 54 Valery Gynina. She established an early lead and won the first set 6-3. Continuing her strong performance into the second set, she won five consecutive games before closing out the match with another 6-3 set score.

This win marked Auburn’s fifth all-time victory over Florida in their series history.

The Auburn Tigers are scheduled to play next on Thursday against No. 11 Oklahoma in Norman.

“A native of nearby Belleview, Florida, Bennett delivered in a homecoming match, clinching the doubles point at No. 1 doubles and securing the team victory at No. 1 singles.”

“Bennett has now earned the honor three times in her career.”
