Sophomore center Emeka Opurum has been named to the SEC Men’s Basketball Community Service Team, according to an announcement from the league on Thursday.
During his first season at Auburn, Opurum participated in several community service activities. He volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and spoke to local sports clubs and elementary schools in the Auburn area.
Although he suffered a season-ending injury during his first year of Division I basketball, Opurum continued to support his teammates and remained active in the Auburn community off the court.
“When a young man chooses kindness, service and responsibility, he becomes a role model for everyone around them,” said Director of Player Development Marquis Daniels.
The SEC Community Service Team is now in its 28th year for both men’s and women’s basketball. Since 2004, all 22 league-sponsored sports have recognized athletes through this program. The initiative began with football in 1994 before expanding to other sports.
Opurum joins other student-athletes representing their schools on the 2025-26 SEC Community Service Team. The full list includes Houston Mallette (Alabama), Amere Brown (Arkansas), Rueben Chinyelu (Florida), Marcus “Smurf” Millender (Georgia), Malachi Moreno (Kentucky), Jalen Reed (LSU), Zach Day (Mississippi), Josh Hubbard (Mississippi State), Trent Pierce (Missouri), Tae Davis (Oklahoma), Myles Stute (South Carolina), Jaylen Carey (Tennessee), Chendall Weaver (Texas), Mackenzie Mgbako (Texas A&M) and Tyler Tanner (Vanderbilt).
