FOIA Request to Auburn University Regarding Chinese National Students on May 16, 2025.

As part of our commitment to transparency and accountability in governmental affairs, we at the Auburn Times have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Auburn University. Our request seeks detailed information concerning Chinese national students currently enrolled at the university.

Specifically, we are requesting documents or lists that provide the total number of current students who are Chinese nationals, along with a breakdown by department. Additionally, we seek information about scholarships awarded to these students, including the amount and source of each scholarship. We are particularly interested in any scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council.

Furthermore, we have requested copies of any policies or procedures that outline how the university monitors its students, including those who are Chinese nationals, to safeguard intellectual property and other confidential information.

This request is made on behalf of The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing transparency in government actions. As members of the media, we believe access to public records is crucial for holding public institutions accountable and providing vital information to the public. In line with this mission, we have requested a fee waiver as media professionals engaged in news gathering and reporting.

We look forward to receiving a response from Auburn University and will continue our efforts to ensure transparency in educational institutions across Alabama.
