Golden Tigers Open Fall Practice Friday

The Tuskegee University football program opened fall preseason camp on Friday morning, after reporting to campus earlier this week under Director of Athletics and new head coach Reginald Ruffin and his staff.

The Golden Tigers took their first step towards the 2022 season and season-opening game against Fort Valley State on Sunday, Sept. 4, televised on ESPNU at 6 pm.

“The excitement was there, as is expected with it being our first day on the practice field, I was glad to see our guys were so ecstatic to be here. My main goal getting started is not only keeping that excitement but also making sure our guys are paying attention to detail so they know what is at stake, which is starting off with a bang in our first game on Sept 4.” Ruffin said. “The only way we do that is learning how to practice, learning how to do the little things and getting better offensively, defensively, and on special teams every day, so we make sure to emphasize that along with taking care of the football, providing takeaways on defense, and avoiding mistakes.”

The program has welcomed in over 100 student-athletes for preseason practice, a stark contrast to the very limited numbers in the spring due to graduation and a coaching change. Beginning next week, practices are scheduled for Monday through Friday at 6 a.m. until classes start on Aug. 22. They will also host a pair of Saturday scrimmages, on Aug. 13 and Aug. 20.

The Golden Tigers will have their sights set on a rematch in the second Boeing Red Tails Classic, held in the historic Cramton Bowl in Montgomery against the Wildcats of Fort Valley State. Tickets are on sale now on the Montgomery Kickoff Classic site, or on goldentigersports.com.
