Auburn University’s softball team secured a 2-1 win over USC Upstate on Sunday at Jane B. Moore Field, concluding the Jane B. Moore Memorial tournament with a strong pitching performance by Ella Harrison.
Harrison pitched a complete game, recording a season-high 13 strikeouts while allowing four hits. She managed to keep USC Upstate from scoring in key moments, including leaving the tying run stranded in the seventh inning. With this victory, Harrison’s record improved to 8-2 for the season.
“Ella was doing her thing,” said co-head coach Chris Malveaux. “She had command of her pitches and did an incredible job of working ahead. Upstate had to guess a little bit, which works in her favor. She was in control the whole time.”
Auburn’s offense produced five hits but left nine runners on base during the game. Senior McKaela Walker led with two hits in four at-bats.
The Tigers scored first in the second inning when freshman Haven Roebuck tripled and then came home on a sacrifice fly by redshirt sophomore Kyla Stroud. Auburn added another run in the fourth after loading the bases; AnnaLea Adams drove in what became the winning run with a fielder’s choice.
USC Upstate tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth inning following an infield single, stolen base, and two-out hit to left field before Adams’ RBI put Auburn back ahead.
Despite late opportunities for USC Upstate—including bases loaded in the sixth and a runner in scoring position during the seventh—Harrison ended both threats with strikeouts.
Auburn will begin Southeastern Conference play next weekend by hosting Kentucky at Jane B. Moore Field as part of Go Wild War Eagle Weekend. The series starts Friday at 6 p.m., with all games available on SEC Network+. Local radio coverage is provided by WEGL 91.1 FM and online through Auburn Tigers’ platforms.
