Jackson Koivun was named the Southeastern Conference’s Golfer of the Week for the fifth time this spring, according to an April 15 announcement from the league office.
Koivun’s recognition comes after his individual win at The Ford Collegiate, where he shot a score of 13-under-par and recorded a field-leading 17 birdies. His performance included six birdies in his final nine holes, which helped him force a playoff with Texas’ Christiaan Maas. Koivun then birdied the first hole of the playoff to secure his tenth career victory.
This latest weekly honor marks the fourteenth time in Koivun’s career that he has received such recognition from the Southeastern Conference. With ten career wins, Koivun becomes only the twenty-first man in NCAA golf history to reach double-digit victories. He now joins notable golfers such as Tiger Woods (11 wins), Jon Rahm (11), and Phil Mickelson (16) who have also achieved ten or more collegiate victories.
One more win would allow Koivun to tie Braden Thornberry’s SEC record of eleven career victories, set during Thornberry’s tenure at Ole Miss from 2015 to 2018.
Looking ahead, postseason play begins next week for Koivun and Auburn University’s top-ranked men’s golf team as they compete for their second conference title in three years at the SEC Championship scheduled for April 22-26 at Seaside Golf Club on St. Simons Island, Georgia.
