Widely regarded as a leading special teams coach, Jacob Bronowski has been appointed as the new Special Teams Coordinator for Auburn University’s football program. The announcement was made by head coach Alex Golesh on Thursday.

“I am fired up Jacob to join our staff,” Golesh said. “His track record is outstanding. He developed multiple national award contenders, including a Lou Groza Award winner, and has led some of the top special teams units in the country. I saw up close when we worked together before that Coach Bronowski understands that special teams can be a championship difference-maker, and he’s proven he can develop elite specialists. He brings exactly the attention to detail and relentless work ethic we need in our program.”

Bronowski and Golesh have previously collaborated at Tennessee and UCF.

Bronowski comes to Auburn after two seasons at Pittsburgh, where he served as Special Teams Coordinator and Tight Ends coach from 2024 to 2025. During his tenure at Pitt, he mentored freshman Trey Butkowski to an All-ACC season and a Lou Groza Award semifinalist spot in 2025. Butkowski converted 19 of 22 field goals (86.4%) and made 41 of 42 extra-point attempts.

In 2024, Bronowski played a significant role in kicker Ben Sauls’ standout season at Pitt. Sauls earned selections to two All-America teams and was also a Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award Semifinalist.

Before joining Pitt, Bronowski spent two years (2022-23) at Miami (Ohio) as special teams coordinator and defensive assistant. His leadership contributed to Miami achieving an 11-3 record and winning the MAC Championship in 2023. That year, Miami’s special teams ranked first nationally in ESPN’s efficiency ratings, led the nation with a net punting average of 44.09 yards during the regular season, finished second nationally with six blocked kicks, and ranked fourteenth in punt returns with an average of 12.46 yards.

Under his guidance at Miami (Ohio), kicker Graham Nicholson won the Lou Groza Award in 2023 after converting 27 out of 28 field goal attempts (96%) and scoring a team-high 116 points. Punter Alec Bevelhimer was named a Ray Guy Award semifinalist with an average of 45 yards per punt.

Sauls led Pitt’s team in scoring with 107 points by making 21 out of 24 field goals (87.5%) and all extra point attempts that season before signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent.

Bronowski received recognition for his coaching achievements by being named to the 247Sports All-Assistant Team and selected for the AFCA “35 Under 35” Coaches Leadership Institute. He was also honored as the 247 Sports Special Teams Coordinator of the Year in 2023.

Earlier roles include serving as special teams analyst at Tennessee in 2021 where Velus Jones Jr., under his analysis, led the SEC with a punt return average of 15.1 yards—ranking second nationally—and earned SEC Co-Special Teams Player of the Year honors while Tennessee placed among the top-25 nationally across four special teams categories.

Bronowski began his coaching career at New Mexico between 2014–17 working with future NFL players Jason Sanders (Miami Dolphins) and Corey Bojorquez (Cleveland Browns). He later coordinated special teams at Robert Morris from 2018–19 where his units topped their conference in several defensive categories related to punts and kickoffs.

A native of College Station, Texas, Bronowski graduated from New Mexico in 2016. He is married to Stacey; they have two sons named Brody and Baker.

His coaching history includes positions at New Mexico (graduate assistant), Robert Morris (special teams coordinator/tight ends), UCF (special teams quality control), Tennessee (special teams analyst), Miami [OH] (special teams coordinator/defensive assistant), Pittsburgh (special teams coordinator/tight ends), before joining Auburn as special teams coordinator beginning with the upcoming season.
