Auburn University’s Jake Albert has been named the Southeastern Conference’s Freshman Golfer of the Week for the third time in four weeks, according to an announcement from the league office on Wednesday.
Albert, who is from Blacksburg, Virginia, contributed to Auburn’s runner-up finish at the Southern Highlands Collegiate in Las Vegas. He finished fourth individually at the event, marking his fourth consecutive top-20 finish and his second straight top-five result.
During the tournament in Las Vegas, Albert recorded rounds of 69 (-3), 71 (-1), and 70 (-2) for a total score of 210 (-6). He made 14 birdies, tying with teammate Jackson Koivun for the third-most birdies among all competitors in a field of 84 golfers.
Albert was also notable as the only freshman to place inside the top 17. The next closest freshmen finished seven shots behind him at one-over-par.
Texas’ Christiaan Maas was named SEC Golfer of the Week after earning low medalist honors at Southern Highlands.
Auburn’s golf team will compete again this weekend from March 7-9 at The Hayt, which will be held at Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. The event is open to spectators.
