Sophomore pitcher Jake Marciano was named Southeastern Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week on Mar. 16 after delivering seven scoreless innings in his SEC debut against Missouri.
This recognition marks the fourth consecutive week that an Auburn player has received a weekly honor from the conference. Previous honorees include Ethin Bingaman and Mason McCraine, who were named SEC Freshman of the Week in weeks two and three, and Jackson Sanders, who earned SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week last week.
Marciano’s performance at Missouri was notable as he made his fifth straight series-opening start, pitching a career-high seven shutout innings. This outing was his second consecutive scoreless appearance and third of the season. He has now started in two of Auburn’s three shutouts this year, which is among the top ten marks nationally. The 2-0 victory also represented Auburn’s first road shutout to open league play since 2002.
During his outing, Marciano retired the final eleven batters he faced after giving up a one-out double in the fourth inning. He threw just 82 pitches—57 for strikes—before a lighting delay ended his appearance early.
In his first five starts with Auburn, Marciano ranks among the top six pitchers in the conference for earned run average (0.93), strikeouts (42), and innings pitched (29.0). Riding a ten-game winning streak, Marciano and No. 4 Auburn (17-2, 3-0 SEC) are set to host No. 3 Georgia Tech on Tuesday before opening their SEC home schedule against No. 2 Texas this weekend.
