Auburn University baseball player Mason McCraine has been named the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Freshman of the Week, according to an announcement from the league office. This marks the second consecutive week that an Auburn player has received this honor, following Ethin Bingaman’s recognition last week.
Since the beginning of last season, Auburn and Florida have each had six SEC Freshman of the Week selections, tying for the most in the conference.
McCraine, who is from Salem, Alabama, contributed to Auburn’s 11th straight regular season home series win. He began his week with a pinch-hit RBI single against West Georgia that drove in his brother, Brandon McCraine. This play helped spark a late-inning comeback leading to a walk-off victory.
In Auburn’s series against Nebraska, McCraine reached base several times in the opener. In the second game of that series, he went 4-for-5 at bat with a home run and six runs batted in (RBI). He delivered two-run singles in both of the first two innings and ended the game early with a two-run homer in the seventh inning. His six RBIs tied for most by an Auburn freshman since Steven Williams achieved seven RBIs against Longwood on February 17, 2018.
The No. 6 ranked Tigers hold a 9-2 record as they approach their final week of non-conference play. Their next matchup is scheduled against Samford (5-6) on Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT.
“Mason McCraine has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week,” stated league officials Monday.
