Tuskegee women's basketball assistant Brittany White will be leaving her position to become an assistant coach with Florida International University of Conference USA.

 

White, an assistant for four years with the program, helped the Golden Tigers to a pair of 20-win seasons (2018-19, 2021-22) and consecutive Southern Intercollegiate Conference (SIAC) Western Division Regular Season titles. She also helped coach and develop multiple All-SIAC performers, including SIAC Woman of the Year India Blakely, 2022 SIAC Player of the Year and D2CCA All-South Region Second Team honoree Ashiala Jackson (Merrillville, Ind.), along with SIAC Defensive Player of the Year JuToreyia Willis (Chattanooga, Tenn.), amongst others.

 

The Marietta, Georgia native was also recognized individually in 2021 after she was named to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Thirty Under 30 presented by Morgan Stanley Global Sports & Entertainment honorees for the 2020-21 season, while helping Tuskegee to an at-large bid to the 2021 NCAA Division II Tournament, the first appearance for the program since 2008. The Golden Tigers were ranked as high as 16th nationally during the season and finished the year ranked 25th. She has also been crucial in recruiting and basketball operations.

 

"Coach White has been invaluable to this program. As much as I hate to see her leave, I'm much happier to see her advancing her career," head coach Trelanne Powell stated. "She is one of the hardest working young coaches around. The offer is greatly deserved, and I know she will continue to grow and thrive under Coach Burks-Wiley. I am so grateful for her time here __ she has become not only a part of my family but will forever be a part of the Tuskegee family."

White joined the Tuskegee women's basketball staff after two seasons as an assistant coach with the Francis Marion University women's basketball program, along with spending two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Delta State. During her time at DSU, the Lady Statesmen posted a combined two-year record of 43-16, made two appearances in the Gulf South Conference Tournament championship game, and earned a bid to the 2014 NCAA Division II National Tournament.
