Tuskegee women's basketball program has announced the hiring of South Carolina alum and seven-year overseas professional Ashley Bruner as an assistant coach on Monday morning.
Bruner joins Tuskegee after spending a professional season playing for Landerneau Bretagne Basket, of France. Prior to her stint in France, she spent two years at the Gray Collegiate Academy in Columbia, S.C., one as the assistant and last season as the head coach.
"I am so happy to finally announce that Coach Bruner is joining our program," Powell stated. "I am beyond excited to be able to bring in another great coach. Coach Bruner came highly recommended, and I can't wait for her to get on the court with the team. I think that she is going to help continue to position this. Program to compete at a high level each season. I'm sure she will be sharing nuggets picked up from one of the greatest coaches in the country, Dawn Staley."
A native of Norman, Okla., Bruner is a graduate of the University of South Carolina and was a four-year member of the women's basketball program under coach Dawn Staley. While with the Gamecocks, she was a member of a pair of NCAA Tournament teams (2012 and 2013), including an appearance in the 2012 Sweet Sixteen.
Bruner's professional career started in 2013, seeing her play in Ecuador, France, Italy, Portugal, Puerto Rico, and Spain. Some of her highlights include Portuguese League Champion and Player of the Year, and EuroCup Player of the Year and Forward of the Year amongst other accolades.
