Golden Tigers Prepare to Open Regular Season at HBCU Volleyball Invitational

The Tuskegee volleyball team will start their 2022 season on Saturday with a trio of games as part of the HBCU Invitational, hosted by Edward Waters over the weekend.

The Golden Tigers will take on Florida Memorial at 11 am on Saturday, before games against Talladega College and Rust on Sunday at 9 am and 1 pm respectively to close out weekend play.

GAME NOTES

  • Tuskegee will open the season with three games in the EWU/HBCU Volleyball Invitational, before a pair of matches in nearby Montgomery next weekend against AUM.
  • Head Coach and former All-SIAC performer Pamela Perkins enters her second year with the program, after a 5-14 record last season in her debut, with all wins coming in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play.
  • The Golden Tigers are bringing back just four returners, led by Second Team All-SIAC Preseason member Erin Jackson (Marietta, Ga.), who accounted for a team-high 165 kills and 114 digs, good for second on the roster.
  • Tuskegee also bring back sophomores Chase Holloway (Madison, Ala.), who finished last season with 84 kills and 100 total points, along with Kayla Garmon (Killen, Texas) who added 61 kills and 21 digs in 2021.
  • The Golden Tigers have added 11 newcomers to the 2022 roster, including nine true freshmen along with a junior college transfer.
  • Tuskegee was picked to finish fifth in the West Division of the SIAC in the preseason poll voted on by conference coaches and sports information directors, behind Spring Hill, Central State, Kentucky State and Lane.
