The Golden Tigers (5-3, 0-2 SIAC) fell in yet another nail-biting Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game on Monday night, as they loss to Albany State 72-67 inside of Daniel "Chappie" James Arena.
The game was back-and-forth from the tip-off, with Albany State opening the game with a three-point lead, however found the game tied twice over the next few minutes after a three from D'Anthony Pennington (Kansas City, Mo.) and short jumper from Reco Hallmon (Atlanta, Ga.) to tie the score at 5-5.
After the two teams continued their tight play, Hallmon scored in the lane for the second consecutive trip down to give Tuskegee an 11-9 lead heading into the under 12-minute media timeout. However, coming out of the break, the Golden Rams retook the lead and gained a 21-13 lead after a three with just under eight minutes to play.
Steve Dulley (Kansas City, Mo.) sank his first three on the next trip down, plus the foul for a four-point play to spark a Tuskegee run, eventually tying the game again at 24-24 at the 6:18 mark, before another quick Albany State run to close the half leading 36-30.
The Golden Rams gained their first double-digit lead of the game a minute into the second half at 40-30, before scores from Gregg Boyd (Seat Pleasant, Md.) and Martez Jones (Tuskegee, Ala.) helped reduce the lead to just four with 15 minutes remaining.
Albany State continued to make short runs, however Tuskegee remained in striking distance, trailing by four with just under ten to play. Dulley scored five unanswered points later in the half to reduce the deficit to a single point at 51-50, yet the Golden Tigers could not retake the lead.
Down 58-54 with four to play, Albany State made one last run to gain separation, going up nine moments later that would prove to be too much for a comeback, as Tuskegee fell at home.
Dulley led the way for Tuskegee offensively, finishing with 18 points, including a trio of three-pointers, while Hallmon and Jones also proved to be productive for the Golden Tigers on the day, as Hallmon scored 16 points along with four steals and a pair of assists. Jones notched his first double-double of the year with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
