U.S. Representative Mike Rogers, who serves as Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, has expressed his approval following the House's passage of H.R. 5009, known as the Servicemember Quality of Life Improvement and National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025.

Rogers highlighted several key aspects of the bill: “The FY25 NDAA gives junior enlisted servicemembers a historic 14.5% pay raise; boosts funding for housing; expands access to medical providers; supports programs that provide employment support to military spouses; and improves access to childcare.” He emphasized the importance of supporting servicemembers and their families, stating it is Congress's most important responsibility.

In addressing national security concerns, Rogers stated, “China is the most dangerous threat facing our nation – the FY25 NDAA is laser-focused on deterring China and protecting our nation.” The act aims to strengthen U.S. defense initiatives in the Indo-Pacific region, modernize nuclear deterrents, revitalize defense industries, and accelerate innovative technologies.

The legislation also includes measures specific to Alabama. Rogers noted that it "authorizes $119.6 million for military construction projects in Alabama," reinforcing the state's role in national defense.

Among the benefits for Alabama are increased funding for projects at Anniston Army Depot, including combat vehicle procurement and infrastructure improvements. The bill also supports Alabama’s textile manufacturing base and mandates an assessment of munitions disposal processes to protect local communities.

Innovation initiatives include significant funding for Redstone Arsenal's Ground Test Facility Infrastructure and various technological advancements in missile defense systems.

Rogers urged swift Senate action on this legislation: “I urge the Senate to quickly pass this important piece of legislation.”
