U.S. Representative Mike Rogers has put forward legislation that would enable states to choose to remain on Daylight Saving Time throughout the year. This move aligns with Rep. Rogers' longstanding support for Alabama's preference to maintain Daylight Saving Time.
The current Uniform Time Act of 1966 restricts states from independently deciding their timekeeping practices regarding Daylight Saving Time. In 2021, Alabama Governor Kay Ivey signed a law mandating the state to stay on Daylight Saving Time all year, contingent upon federal approval through Rep. Rogers' proposed legislation.
"I am proud to have reintroduced legislation to allow states to remain on Daylight Saving Time year-round," stated Rep. Rogers. "Changing our clocks twice a year is unnecessary and an outdated nuisance; furthermore, remaining on Daylight Saving Time could have tremendous benefits for the economy and people’s health. The people of Alabama have spoken, and they want to stay on Daylight Saving Time year-round. My legislation allows our state and many more to do just that."
If passed and signed by the President, similar laws in other states would also become effective immediately.
