U.S. Representative Mike Rogers from Alabama's 3rd district expressed approval for the Trump Administration's decision to resume sales of surplus 1911 pistols through the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP). This decision follows a previous halt in the program by the Biden Administration.
Rep. Rogers stated, "I am pleased to see that the Trump Administration has decided to release 10,000 surplus pistols and to allow the CMP to resume sales." He added that when he introduced an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2016, it was described as a "win-win for the taxpayers," a sentiment he continues to support.
Before this program was initiated, surplus M11911A1 pistols produced by the U.S. Armed Forces were stored at an annual cost of approximately $200,000 to taxpayers. The CMP 1911 program offers individuals interested in owning a piece of American military history an opportunity to apply for ownership and purchase these firearms.
Rogers remarked on the previous administration's actions: "The Biden Administration characteristically decided to put a halt to this effective program last year." He praised the current administration, stating, "Thankfully, the Trump Administration continues to be a champion for gun owners and American excellence."
The amendment introduced by Rep. Rogers during his tenure before becoming Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee allowed for these vintage firearms' transfer from Army storage to CMP South in Anniston, Alabama, which manages their sale.
