Tahaad Pettiford announced on April 11 that he will return to Auburn University for his junior basketball season in 2026-27.

Pettiford’s decision is significant for the Auburn Tigers, as it strengthens the team’s roster and brings back a key player with notable achievements. His return comes alongside other experienced players including Kevin Overton, Sebastian Williams-Adams, and Simon Walker.

During his sophomore year, Pettiford averaged 15.4 points and 3.8 assists per game. He became the 41st player in Auburn program history to reach the milestone of scoring over 1,000 career points, finishing the season with a total of 1,025 points and contributing 258 assists overall.

The New Jersey native scored at least 20 points in thirteen games this past season and has surpassed that mark twenty-six times throughout his college career. Highlights from his sophomore campaign include a career-high thirty-point performance at Arizona in December, as well as strong showings against Arkansas and Tennessee during tournament play. In the National Invitation Tournament championship game against Tulsa, Pettiford recorded twenty-four points along with eight assists.

Pettiford returns to Auburn as an experienced leader who has played an important role in guiding the team to appearances such as the Final Four in 2025 and winning the NIT title in 2026.

Looking ahead, Pettiford’s continued presence is expected to provide leadership both on and off the court for Auburn’s upcoming basketball season.
