Tuskegee University announced on April 1 that the installation ceremony for the Rev. Dr. Cecil Andrew Duffie as Dean of the Tuskegee University Chapel will take place at 10 a.m. on April 18. The event is expected to bring together faith, civic, and academic leaders in celebration of this appointment.

The installation is seen as an important moment for the university’s spiritual life, marking a new chapter under Duffie’s leadership.

Rev. Dr. Duffie began his tenure last summer and has already had an impact on campus spiritual activities. “Immediately upon his arrival, Rev. Duffie brought a reverence to the campus that engaged our students,” said Dr. Mark A. Brown, President and CEO of Tuskegee University. “From the Tuesday night prayer services to Sunday morning chapel, and especially meeting students where they are in virtual spaces, he is shepherding a transformation of the spiritual community in the Renaissance Era of Mother Tuskegee. It gives me joy to see them worshiping in the chapel in growing numbers every week and their social media presence expands the conversation student to student.”

Duffie previously served as Dean of Julius S. Scott Sr. Chapel at Wiley University and holds advanced degrees from Howard University along with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida.

“I am profoundly honored to serve Mother Tuskegee with Dr. Brown,” said Duffie regarding his new role at Tuskegee University Chapel.“I look forward to carrying the enduring legacy of the chapel with deep reverence, and an unwavering commitment to its traditions, growth, and innovation.”

The ceremony will include music by Tuskegee University’s Golden Voices under Dr. Wayne Barr’s direction and participation from several notable clergy members including deans from Spelman College and Howard University chapels as well as local pastors who have influenced or mentored Duffie.

The service is open to all members of the public with a reception following immediately after.
