PHENIX CITY: Media Release: Coronavirus

Phenix City issued the following announcement on March 13.

The City of Phenix City is staying in close contact with health officials and is monitoring updates from the Alabama Department of Public Health regarding the coronavirus, and as of right now, there has been one case of coronavirus confirmed in Alabama.

The citizens of our city need to work together as a community to take the following preventive steps identified by the CDC: Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; Use alcohol-based sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol if soap is not available; Clean/disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using regular household cleaning sprays or wipes; Stay home if you feel sick. The CDC identifies certain people at higher risk: older adults and people who have the following serious chronic medical conditions: Heart Disease, Diabetes, Lung Disease.

The City of Phenix City recommends the following: Limit unnecessary trips; pay bills online or by mail; limit calls for Police and Fire to emergency situations only; visit your doctor if you have any of the following symptoms: Fever (100.4 or higher); Cough; and/or Shortness of Breath.
