AUBURN, Ala.- The Auburn City Council took the following actions at its first meeting in June:
Approved tax abatements for Donghee America. The council authorized a tax abatement for Donghee America, which is expanding and investing $63 million in its electric vehicle battery case manufacturing operation, located in Auburn’s Technology Park West. The expansion will create an additional 100 jobs.
Approved maintenance and repair work on the Gay Street Parking Deck. The council authorized a contract to repair and maintain the Gay Street Parking Deck at a cost of $394,933.06. A conditional appraisal of the deck was completed in December 2021 that identified restorative needs that the contract will fulfill. This work will extend the useful life of the deck and ensure the health, safety and welfare of its users.
Approved a temporary downtown street closure for June 25. The council approved a temporary street closure for June 25 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Magnolia Avenue between Gay and College streets. The closure will allow The Great Race to make a stop in Auburn for lunch and showcase more than 100 classic cars. The Great Race is a nine-day event traveling from St. Augustine, Florida, to Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The council also:
- Announced two vacancies on the Auburn Downtown Redevelopment Authority, with terms beginning July 19 and ending July 18, 2029. One vacancy on the Indian Pines Recreation Authority was also announced, with a term beginning June 21 and ending June 20, 2027. For more information or to apply, visit auburnalabama.org/boards.
- Recognized the Auburn High School Girls Tennis Team for winning the 2023 AHSAA State Championship.
- Approved the removal and pruning of trees on right of way as well as the removal of 11 trees at Dinius Park. The trees being removed were deemed at-risk based on the City’s Tree Risk Assessment Program. The risk rating for each tree indicates imminent or probable likelihood of failure.
